It's All Part of the Plan
Perplexed by the extreme shift to the right in the Republican Party I began to research how abortion has been used as a galvanizing issue to attract people to conservative churches that promote “family values” and indoctrinate them to vote. As I dig deeper into our history and understand the political strategies used today, I’ve discovered that what lies beneath the pro-life movement is the preservation of white supremacy. In It’s All Part of the Plan I'm exploring the tension between misogyny and feminism and how that plays out in today's politics. I combine vintage imagery with existing text and consider the ways nostalgia is used in the religious right's messaging.
